Adult Driving Classes and Behind-the-Wheel Lessons

Build the Skills You Need. Skip the Ones You Don't.

Learning to drive as an adult doesn’t follow a script. You might need a full classroom course, a few hours behind the wheel before your road test, or one focused lesson on the thing that makes your palms sweat, whether that’s merging onto the highway or driving in the snow. And with work, family, and everything else on your plate, you want the option that gets you there without extra hours you don’t need.
That’s how our adult programs are built. Each class and lesson stands on its own, so you can start with the one that matches where you are today and add more only if you want to. Compare your options below, pick your starting point, and our instructors will take it from there.

Your Path to a License

How Adults Get a Colorado Driver's License

No license yet? Here’s the path, and where Anshor can help along the way.
step 1

Pass the Written Test

Show that you know Colorado’s traffic laws, road signs, and safe driving practices. You can take the written test right at Anshor.
step 2

Get Your Permit and Start Practicing

Your instruction permit lets you legally practice on public roads. This is where classroom instruction and behind-the-wheel lessons do the most good.
step 3

Pass the Driving Test

When you’re ready, take your road test with Anshor in one of our vehicles, with a state-certified examiner.
step 4

Get Your License

Pass your driving test and you’re ready to receive your Colorado driver’s license.

Classes and Lessons Shaped Around You

No two adults walk into an Anshor classroom or climb into one of our cars with the same story. Before your first class or lesson, your instructor gets to know where you’re starting, what’s giving you trouble, and what you want to walk away with. Then they put your time toward that. If you’ve never been taught to drive, we’ll start with the basics.
If you’ve been driving for years but snow-packed roads still make you nervous, we’ll head for the conditions you want to master. If your road test is next week, we’ll focus on what the examiner will be looking for. Patient instruction and honest feedback, at a pace that works for you.

Choose Your Starting Point

What's Included in Our Adult Driving Lessons

Every adult driver starts from a different place. Choose the option that fits where you are now, then check pricing at your nearest Anshor location.
A complete classroom introduction to Colorado traffic laws, road signs, defensive driving, and vehicle safety, taught by an instructor who’s there to answer your questions in real time. A strong fit if you’ve never driven, or if you’d rather understand the rules before you ever turn the key.

Prefer to learn on your own schedule? Our 30-hour course is also available online.

A shorter, instructor-led classroom option that covers essential driving laws, driver responsibilities, and safe driving practices in a single focused session.
Structured, one-on-one time on real Colorado roads with a professional instructor. You’ll practice everyday driving situations, get honest feedback on your habits, and build toward a confident road test. A permit is required, but a full driver’s ed course is not.
Schedule your Colorado road test directly with Anshor at participating locations. Open to the public, not just Anshor students.
Bundle your classroom or online course with behind-the-wheel instruction, the most popular way families complete their Anshor program.
Private lessons for adults returning to driving or seniors who want to stay sharp behind the wheel, at all Anshor locations.

Schedule Behind-the-Wheel Training

One lesson, built around one goal. Tell us what you want to work on, whether it’s parallel parking, highway merging, winter conditions, mountain passes, or a final run-through before your test, and your instructor will shape the session around it. A good option for experienced drivers, too.
The first official step toward your Colorado license. Take your written test at Anshor and walk out ready to start practicing.

Already have your permit and feel ready? Take your road test in an Anshor vehicle with a state-certified examiner who will evaluate how you handle real-world driving situations.

What to bring:

  • A valid Colorado learner’s permit, either the physical permit or proof through the myColorado app (photos of your permit are not accepted)

If you’re required by law to take an interlock test, an additional fee applies.

Not Sure Where to Start?

Classroom Course, Driving Lessons, or Both?

Colorado doesn’t require adults to complete driver’s ed before getting a license, so the right mix depends on your experience and how you learn best.

  • Start in the classroom if you’ve never driven, want to understand Colorado law before getting on the road, or learn best with structure.
  • Go straight to behind-the-wheel lessons if you have your permit, some practice under your belt, and want professional feedback before your test.
  • Book a private lesson if you already drive and just want help with a specific skill or situation.

For first-time drivers, a typical path looks like this: pass the written test, get your permit, take the classroom course if you’d like the foundation, practice, add behind-the-wheel lessons to sharpen your skills, then schedule your driving test. You can join at any step.
