Your Colorado Road Test, Made Simple

Get on the Road with an Adult Driving Test

If you’re ready to take your Colorado driving test, Anshor can help you get it scheduled and get through it with confidence. Here’s what to know before you go, what to bring, and how to book your appointment.

Every Driver's Path to Test Day Looks a Little Different

Who Takes an Adult Driving Test at Anshor

Adults taking their driving test at Anshor come from a variety of backgrounds, including those taking a driving test for the first time, adults who recently received their permit and are ready to test, drivers who need to retest, and adults returning to driving after time away, where applicable.

What to Expect During Your Driving Test as an Adult

Before your test:

You’ll need a valid Colorado permit and any required documentation (more on that below). Plan to arrive a few minutes early.

During your test:

You’ll test using an Anshor company vehicle. An examiner will guide you through a real driving route, evaluating the core skills below. Appointments generally run a short session, though exact timing can vary.

After your test:

Your examiner will let you know the result right away. If you pass, you’ll take your paperwork to the DMV to have your license issued. Passing the driving test is one part of the licensing process. The Colorado DMV is who ultimately issues your license.

Know Before You Go

What to Bring to Your Driver’s Exam

  • Your original, valid Colorado permit. Photos or copies of your permit are not accepted.
  • Any additional documentation required for your specific situation (we’ll flag this when you schedule, if applicable)

Come prepared. If you arrive without the required documents or don’t show up for your appointment, there are no refunds.

Are You Ready for Your Test?

Run through this quick checklist before your appointment:

  • Vehicle control: Can you comfortably steer, accelerate, and brake in normal traffic?
  • Intersections and right-of-way: Do you know who goes first at a four-way stop, and how to handle uncontrolled intersections?
  • Turning and lane positioning: Are your turns smooth, and do you stay centered in your lane?
  • Parking and backing: Can you park and back up safely and under control?
  • Lane changes: Do you check mirrors and blind spots before changing lanes?
  • Speed management: Are you comfortable adjusting your speed for traffic, weather, and road conditions?
  • Observation and decision-making: Are you scanning ahead and making safe calls before situations become urgent?
Feeling shaky on any of these? That’s normal, and it’s exactly what a lesson beforehand can help with.

Common Questions We Hear About Driver’s License Tests

Yes. You’ll need your original, valid Colorado permit. Photos or copies are not accepted.
Your original permit is required. Additional documentation may apply depending on your situation. We’ll let you know when you schedule if anything else is needed.

Yes. Testing appointments use an Anshor company vehicle, so you don’t need to own or borrow one, unless your permit has a restriction that requires you to drive a vehicle with an ignition interlock device.

If your permit has an interlock restriction, you’ll need to bring your own vehicle with an approved interlock device installed. Please contact us before your appointment so we can confirm what you’ll need and make sure everything is ready on test day.

Appointments generally run a short session, and the average drive test usually takes around 20 minutes to complete. Exact timing can vary by appointment, depending on factors like traffic, weather, and the test route. We recommend arriving a few minutes early so check-in goes smoothly and your test can start on time.

Your examiner will evaluate core driving skills including vehicle control, intersections, turning, parking, lane changes, speed management, and overall observation and decision-making. See the checklist above for a full rundown.

Don’t worry, it happens, and we’re here to help you get there. Our pass rate is around 98%, and our instructors work hard to make sure you’re prepared and supported no matter what.

If you don’t pass on your first attempt, Colorado state rules require a one-day waiting period before retesting; you can’t test again the same day, even with a different company. Once you’re ready to come back, our retest fee is just $60, a discount off the full test price that not every driving school offers.

Yes. Many adults schedule a private lesson before their test to brush up on specific skills or simply feel more prepared. A lesson is a good chance to practice maneuvers like parallel parking, lane changes, and turns, and to get comfortable with the vehicle and the kinds of roads you may drive on during the test. Your instructor can also point out any habits worth correcting and answer questions about what to expect on test day.

Passing your driving test is a required step, but the Colorado DMV issues the actual license. You’ll need to follow up with the DMV to complete that part of the process.
Appointments are recommended, but walk-in testing may be available depending on your location. Walk-in availability, hours, and pricing vary by location, so check your local page or give us a call before you head in.
