Online Driver's Ed + Lesson Packages for Teens

State-approved. Self-paced. Counts toward your teen's Colorado permit.

Between school, practice, and part-time jobs, finding a weekly class time that works for everyone can feel impossible. Anshor’s online driving school gives your teen the same 30 state-required classroom hours as our in-person course, on a schedule that fits your family.
The course is approved by the Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles, so the hours your teen completes online count exactly the same as hours in a classroom. When they’re done, they’re ready for their permit, and Anshor’s instructors are ready to take over behind the wheel.

Five simple steps to your teen’s permit

How Our Online Classroom Works

We offer our online classroom through a partnership with AAA, one of the most trusted names in driver safety. Your teen logs in, works through the course one lesson at a time, and picks up right where they left off whenever they come back. There are no set class times and no falling behind because of a game or a late shift.

Here's what your teen can expect:

  1. Enroll with Anshor: Choose the online course on its own or bundled with behind-the-wheel lessons.
  2. Pre-register with the Colorado DMV: Colorado requires teens to pre-register for a permit before starting driver’s ed. It takes a few minutes online, and you’ll receive a pre-registration code to enter when your teen begins the course.
  3. Work through the lessons at their own pace: The course is broken into short modules your teen can complete a little at a time, on evenings, weekends, or whenever works.
  4. Finish the 30 hours and receive a completion certificate: This is the document the DMV needs to see.
  5. Get the permit and start driving: Take the written permit test, apply for the permit, and begin supervised practice with a parent before moving on to lessons with an Anshor instructor.

What the Online Course Covers

The online course covers everything the state requires new drivers to learn before they get behind the wheel, including:

It also prepares your teen for the written permit test, so they walk in knowing what to expect.

Fully approved by the Colorado DMV

State-Approved Hours & Certification for Online Courses

This is the question most parents ask first, so here’s the simple answer: yes, the online course counts. It’s approved by the Colorado DMV, part of the Colorado Department of Revenue, and fully meets the 30-hour driver education requirement for a teen permit.

When your teen finishes, they receive a certificate of completion to bring to the DMV along with their ID documents and a parent-signed Affidavit of Liability. You can confirm Colorado’s requirements for teen permits on the Colorado DMV Minor Permit page.

Four things to have ready for your lessons

What You Need For Online Driving Lessons Classes

  • A device with internet access: A laptop, desktop, or tablet works.
  • About 30 hours, spread out however you like: The state sets a 30-hour minimum, so the course can’t be rushed, but your teen chooses when and how often to log in. An hour a night, a few longer weekend sessions, or a mix of both all work.
  • A DMV pre-registration code: You’ll need this before your teen starts the course.
  • To be the right age: Teens can start the online course at 14 years, 6 months and can apply for a permit at 15.

Tip: Starting at 14 and a half gives your teen time to finish the course and get their permit right at 15. Colorado requires teens to hold a permit for a full year before getting a license, so an earlier start keeps a 16th-birthday license on the table.

Behind-the-Wheel Lesson Packages That Pair With Your Online Course For Driving

The online course handles the classroom part of driver’s ed. Behind-the-wheel lessons are where your teen puts it into practice with a professional instructor, and in Colorado, they’re required for teens getting a license before age 16 and a half.

Online Course Only

  • 30 state-approved classroom hours, online and self-paced (must be completed within 180 days)
  • Completion certificate for the DMV
  • Written permit tests are included. Take it at the DMV, through the DMV’s at-home online test, or at an Anshor office for a separate fee.
  • Students must be at least 14 years and 6 months old to start
  • Best for families who plan to add driving lessons later, or who’ve already arranged them

Online Course + Behind-the-Wheel Lessons (Full Teen Driving Package)

  • Everything in the online course
  • 6 hours of one-on-one driving lessons
  • The same instructor for every session, so your teen builds on what they learned last time
  • Optional drive test add-ons
  • Bundled at a lower price than buying each part separately
  • Get started with a low down payment

The online course starts whenever you’re ready, with no waiting for the next class session. Behind-the-wheel lessons are booked by appointment after your teen has their permit, so you can plan them around school and activities.

We recommend about six months, or at least 10 hours, of supervised practice with a parent before the first lesson. That way your teen’s time with an instructor goes toward real skill-building, like merging, highway driving, and tricky intersections, rather than the basics.

How it all adds up to a license:

  • Pre-register with the Colorado DMV
  • Complete the 30-hour online course
  • Pass the written permit test and get the permit (age 15+)
  • Log supervised practice hours with a parent
  • Complete 6 hours of behind-the-wheel lessons with Anshor
  • Hold the permit for 12 months
  • Pass the drive test and get the license

Online vs. In-Person Classroom Driving Lessons: Which Fits Your Teen?

Both options cover the same 30 state-required hours and lead to the same permit. The difference is how your teen learns best.

Online may be the better fit if your teen:

  • Has a busy or unpredictable schedule
  • Likes to work independently and at their own speed
  • Wants to start right away instead of waiting for a class date

In-person may be the better fit if your teen:

  • Learns best with an instructor and classmates
  • Benefits from a set schedule to stay on track
  • Wants to take the written permit test in class

Frequently Asked Questions About Teen’s Online Driving Lessons

Yes. The course is approved by the Colorado DMV and meets the full 30-hour driver education requirement for a teen permit. Your teen receives a completion certificate to bring to the DMV.

The course is 30 hours, which is what Colorado requires for teens 15 to 17. The lessons are timed, so it can’t be finished faster than that, but it’s fully self-paced: teens can start and stop whenever they like and work on a computer, tablet, or phone. Most spread it out over a few weeks. Starting January 1, 2027, the 30-hour course is required for all teens 15–17. Before then, teens 15½ and older can take a shorter 4-hour driver awareness program instead.
As soon as they’ve completed the course and are at least 15. They’ll need their completion certificate, ID documents, a parent-signed Affidavit of Liability, and a DMV appointment. Completion certificates are only valid for a limited time, so plan to apply for the permit soon after finishing.
The online course covers classroom hours only. Add behind-the-wheel lessons by choosing the Full Teen Driving Package, or purchase lessons separately later.
Yes, the permit test is included with the online course. Online students can take it at an Anshor office by appointment, or at the DMV right after they finish the course. Either way, the permit itself is only issued by the DMV, so every student still has to go to the DMV in person.
Anshor doesn’t give refunds. Once a family has paid and registered, tuition can’t be refunded, moved to another student, or used as credit for other services. Canceling a driving lesson the same day, or not showing up, costs $30. All driving lessons have to be finished within one year of getting the permit, or they’re lost.
It works well for independent, self-motivated students. If your teen does better with structure and face-to-face instruction, our in-person classroom course may be a better fit.
